"A toast, to Desert Sands Trading Company!" Ajamar smiled as the assembled merchants all raised their classes in tribute to the new venture.
"So, truly now a man of business." Verity, looking stunning in a simple, yet perfectly styled turquoise dress smiled up at him, briefly touching his arm as a gesture of support. She was on her best performance, pleasantly charming each of the merchants, male and female alike.
The assembled merchants were an odd mix, comprising some of the most well-known merchants from both Karameikos and Ylaruam. All were cheerful and a bit overawed at the extravagance of Verity and Ajamar's home.
"I see you wasted no time." This, from an extravagantly dressed, if not a bit overweight, lady of middle years. "Already, silks are dramatically coming down in cost, and we have all the stock. "It's nice to have the right connections," clearly addressing a Yllari merchant, who smiled in return and raised his glass.
"Yes, we take a hit on margins to start, but because we are now collectively much larger than any competition, we outlast them, and make up our costs on volume. They won't be able to keep up." Ajamar smirked.
"You certainly didn't start small. I don't think anyone has gone all on on this level. I've never heard of such a thing. But, it seems you have the capital." The man looked around the room, perhaps a bit enviously.
Verity smiled, "Yes, Ajamar doesn't do will with half measures. And one only has to look at his wings to know where his interests lie." The reference to Ajamar's gold wings elicited a chuckle for the other attendees.
As the men chatted amongst themselves, the butler arrived, carrying an ornate tray, with large cold coins laid on it.
"Ah, perfect timing, my man," Ajamar smiled, pleased with himself. "Gentlemen, a small token of our new venture. A small reminder of our modest goals as a merchant company." Butler in tow, he handed each of the merchants one of the coins. Verity, smirked slightly, shaking her head, clearly watching for the reactions of the merchants.
One large merchant guffawed loudly as he looked at his coin. "Small, modest, goals you say? I do wonder what your large goals would look like." The other merchants reacted in similar vein, amused, but, also, with a glint in their eyes. The same question was reflected in each of their faces, "could this really succeed?"
"This is just the beginning, I assure you."
Each coin was imprinted with a simple motto: "I don't want to rule the world, I only want to own it."
