Attention Adventurers and Magic-Users of Threshold
As you may have heard, a scientific scouting mission is to be conducted in order to gather data regarding one or more possible leyline locations. We will be travelling as a group, and while combat will likely occur, it is not the focus of this endeavour. If your interest is a constant rush of excitement, this will not be the journey for you. Our goal is to examine the land and its features, collaborating as a group, to determine suitability and characteristics that will help inform future actions. I wish to make it clear that we will not be interfering with the leylines (even if it was possible at a given location) at this time. Anyone intending to do so will be stopped, potentially with force if needed, and reported to appropriate authorities.
This is a mission of learning, not one of hasty, risky actions.
While those with magic talents and expertise will be very useful, there will be many avenues for assistance for those with without arcane or other magical gifts. The more people we can work with, the more effective the research effort will be. If you're unsure of how you can help, please ask and someone will be able to point you in the right direction.
Please meet promptly in Kelvin town square at 8:30pm on Sunday (//OOC: 06/06/21).
- Dame Lumina, Archmage of the Arcane Alliance, in aid of The Threshold Council.
//OOC: This is going to be a little bit different of a thing. We'll be looking for every character to be doing something to contribute. Try to think about a skill your character can use to aid the efforts - there will be physical and magical signs (or a lack of them) that would indicate that a leyline would be in a given area. Additionally, we're not just going to be rocking up, everyone making a quick dice roll and leaving. The expectation is that we'll be spending some time actually RPing doing the thing you'll be making a roll on. The goal isn't to "win" the encounter by rolling well, the point is how the encounter goes RP wise. The numbers (reminder to set dice bags to local) provide a rough guide only, and preferably something to bounce RP off. In a similar vein, just because your character may have 80 points in a skill, that doesn't mean that should be the skill you roll if it doesn't make any sense to help with the situation. Try to think about possible skills you can use in advance. If you're stuck for advice, I suggest asking IC for how your character can help (or ask someone like myself or Laur beforehand), but please remember that anyone can make a search check (to examine the physical location) or spot (to look for hidden creatures/beings), even with no ranks in it. I would really prefer skill checks over ability checks, but story is king here. Helping clear the zone of monsters is the start of a contribution, not the end. Any questions please ask on the Discord or in game.
