For Beginners to the server it is strongly suggested to make an adventurer of any race / class and begin in Threshold.
Threshold is a haven for adventurers surrounded by humanoid-inhabited wilderness. Humble beginnings saw a tent strewn field become a bustling mini metropolis. But is it getting to big for it's boots? A town filled with so much power and financial influence, could be considered in a very precarious position indeed.
Threshold is ruled by council system. Members being made up of Player Characters who have proven themselves politically savvy (or not and just really good at acting important). The town is strongly influenced by the playerbase, including it's buildings, layout, NPC's and wellbeing.
Being as the town has a high turnover of new faces and has a tendency to easily forget who lives and dies - you can choose to pass through unnoticed or really make your mark.
If you're a seasoned veteran and you know what you like, or rather that you don't really like Threshold et al:
The Black Eagle Territories
This area in the western reaches Karameikos, is ruled by King Ludwig "Black Eagle" von Hendriks. The Black Eagle rules his dominion with an iron fist. The central town of 10,000 people is dominated by the Baron's residence of Fort Doom, a forbidding structure whose dungeons are rumored to be filled with those who have displeased the Baron
The KAF / Threshold / Kelvin Law is not obeyed here; only the Black Eagle's Law is followed. That law is: Obey the King or Die. Laws change from day to day, with his whims; it may be legal to commit murder one day, illegal to eat the next. All crimes are punishable by death unless the Baron chooses to show leniency. This he does when he thinks the person will cause him more amusement if left alive.
Sounds idyllic! Like a real vacation with whips and chains and regimented assimilation.
Expect firm rules about character creation: Head types, Skin color, Tattoos, weapon use and skills. etc.
The Black Eagle Territory is a military faction. Players creating characters should be prepared for DM led drills, orders, training and missions. Failure to comply may result in permadeath of your character. [You have been warned]
Specialty Faction Characters:
Within Karameikos there are several other nearby lands that you can claim to hail from. You can create a character that spawns to start in Threshold but technically comes from any of the other areas listed:
Kingdom of Alfheim
The Atruaghin Clans
The Broken Lands
The Republic of Darokin
The Ethengar Khanates
Five Shires
The Principalities of Glantri
Heldann
The Kingdom of Ierendi
The Grand Duchy of Karameikos
Minrothad
Ostland
The Kingdom of Rockhome
The Soderfjord Jarldoms
The Thyatian Empire
The Kingdom of Vestland
The Emirates of Ylaruam
I strongly suggest googling these cities and their setting to get an idea of the race, culture and traits of the denizens of these areas before diving in - gung ho. Many of them are known for their Hin (halfling), Dwarves or Elves. Some are magocracies (mage led society), so for example a Fighter from Glantri would basically be a lower caste citizen. Whereas a Wizard or Sorcerer might be from an extremely wealthy and powerful family.
This is 'choose your own adventure' at it's very greatest.
If you are ever at a loss and need character assistance, remember to join our Discord server and chat with some veterans who will help you with your character biography and land of origin.
Each of these cities may have their own faction that you can represent in game. To be sure you have a uniform / skill set and matching character, please contact the DM team or Admin to confirm.
But Senpai, I am the most to be noticed. AKA: Ghost Pepper Faction Options
Outlaw Legacy
Your character is alone wolf er loner? They do not belong to Threshold or the Black Eagle Barony.
At war with both sides, you are at risk of PVP (player versus player) action from both sides.
This player faction is usually unlocked as a gift when a player has committed a heinous crime in Threshold. Though you can choose it intentionally at creation from the legacy list.
Access to this faction is available to: Anyone who picks it from the Legacy list after character login to the server.
BONUS GAME: Faction Switching / Sudden but inevitable betrayal
A Thresholder seeking employ in the Black Eagle Barony will either be welcomed with open arms F O R E V E R. Or summarily executed.
A Black Eagle soldier leaving the employ of the Baron, may be able to defend themselves for long enough to make a life for themselves. Players attempting this option should consider it an extremely high risk occupation and should always be prepared for retribution by major force.
Some Black Eagle characters: e.g Goths will have magical restraints preventing them from 'going rogue'. They will self destruct. You're a consumable danger dealer. [W A R N E D]
