Permadeath and you
It is relevant to note that death in Mystara Alternate is a fickle mistress. The body is re birthed when resurrected at it's site of death or when being returned to a temple or crypt. You leave behind a physical shell, that holds some of your fallen earthly possessions and marks your fall.
Each player can choose to decide how much the Resurrection process effects them mentally and physically. As there are after death effects for dying, they do escalate as you improve in power.
When does death become permanent?
As a Punishment from DM's
The number one reason a death can become permanent is via DM intervention. If a character is receiving punishment of death from a high level NPC, or a firing squad of NPC's. They will be notified OOC via a discussion as well that this is a disciplinary process and it will be the end of their character. This will be an in character death and then a deletion.
As a player agreed process
Players can agree together, it must be a two part process of killer and to-be-killed, or experiment of a spell, or a divine sacrifice; to agree upon the nature of the death and also to write it up for the forums IC as a plot device, or punishment. We work on a system of full consent. A player cannot tell another player that their IC death was permanent without an agreement from the player. If it is a DM agreed punishment, a DM will tell you. It will not come from a player.
As a personal reason
Players have every right to decide when the death their player has received is significant, or would be the one that they lose faith, will to live or would simply choose for their soul / essence / being to leave the plane. It is your right as a player to make your death as serious or non-serious as possible.
It does not have to happen in game. If you have a storyline in your mind that would include a death worthy of your character, you do not need permission to kill yourself off. We believe you have the agency to control your characters end.
As always you cannot use major NPC's in your story without permission from the DM team. You also cannot write another player character without their express permission and approval of your story.
It may seem like a lot of information, but we are seeking for everyone to feel as fulfilled and well rounded with their stories as possible without taking agency from others or misusing NPC's that are still relevant and being used in the main story arcs of the server.
Seeking Permadeath
Remember that there may be options you do not know about. If you are in a particular faction, it is good to seek a DM first to see if you (as a deleting player) can donate your death to further a faction plot or become an arc for other players to become involved in.
Long term player deaths can be extremely motivating and emotional factors to play. Our Core Team would love to hear from you via Admins via a PM if you would like to donate your death to the Mystara Alternate storyline.
