Mystara Language Guide: Acronyms
Arc - storyline; one part of a bigger story, however often still divided into chapters or episodes
AU – Alternate Universe (But mostly Creator of Mystara: Black Horizon: AU Armageddon)
BE – Black Eagle Barony, or Black Eagles
BIS – Best in Slot, referring to gear at maximum level
BW – Black Woods – a densely forested area that has multiple aspects and sections
Cheesing / Cheese: When a character extends the realms of what is believable. e.g: she’s a half elf, angel Bard/Cleric mix who can read minds.
COK – Church of Kelvin
DAF – Ducal Armed Forces
DM – Dungeon Master: Active humans controlling the game difficulty, NPC’s, items etc.
ERP – Erotic Roleplay. Should be confirmed between consenting and veteran players and in private areas of the server / in whispers / tells.
FTB / Fade to Black - skipping over parts of a thread or ending a thread early due to short time, continuation or explicit content (ERP).
Godmodding - controlling someone else’s character or overpowering someone own beyond your character abilities.
Griefing – Aggressively pursuing another PC and killing them repeatedly, spawn killing and or trap killing. All PVP should be approached with a roleplay intention, discussion or provocation.
Hiatus - a break away from a roleplay account for an extended period of time
IC – In Character: Currently speaking / acting as if in the role of your character. A requirement for Mystara Alternate.
IIRC – Acronym of “If I recall correctly”
IRL – In Real Life
KAF – Kings Armed Forces
LOS – Line of Sight
META / Metagaming - inserting your OOC knowledge into IC interactions. Includes forum posts and whispers / tells. Information must be passed directly from character to character in game.
NPC – Non Player Character
OOC – Out of Character: A limited communication method in game using // double slashes for commands like //afk or //brb
OP - Over-Powered or (related to forum posts) Original Poster.
PC – Player Character: You or another human player will be referred to as PC’s
PM – Private Message
Powerplaying / Cheesing - making your character all-knowing / all-powerful, Different to a legitimately highly powered character existing within the limits and requirements of their faction
PRC – Prestige Class (Unlocked via DM intervention / Rewards /Legacy)
PVE - person versus environment -or- player versus environment
PVP - person versus person -or- player versus player
QFT – Quoted for truth
Semi-Hiatus - decreased activity for an extended period of time
Timeskip - also used to skip forward, either in a thread or in a plot’s timeline
Trigger - something that upsets and harms a person’s well-being and mental health – intense forum posts / roleplay threads with extreme content should be marked as such.
Veteran: Someone who has played on this or another similar server and is familiar with both RP and the game mechanics.
